A quiet revolution is taking place on the walls around us. U.S. based startup Adept Materials has revealed trial results from its moisture regulating paint technology, a next-generation coating designed to combat indoor mould by controlling surface humidity without mechanical intervention.
In trials across schools, bathrooms, and commercial kitchens, the paint kept surfaces within optimal relative humidity levels, reducing peaks by over 30%, thereby limiting conditions for mould to thrive. The innovation works by passively absorbing and releasing water vapour depending on the room’s climate.

Unlike conventional anti-mould coatings that rely on biocides or frequent application, Adept’s solution functions through material engineering at the micro-level. It’s long-lasting, low-emission, and adaptable across commercial and residential settings.
The company plans to scale the technology globally following certification, positioning it as part of the broader shift toward smart, health-conscious building materials.
